2,4,3,1.... that being said, having seen him personally on several tours, the recorded versions are always better sounding than the live. And you have nailed it in multiple variations across several albums! Kudos!! 🤘🏼🎸👊🏼👍🏼🎼

4 is almost on point as far as his late 80s and early 90s tone went. IMO if you could make 4 more crisp, maybe a bit less gain while retaining the compression, it would be perfect.

2, 1, 3, 4 2 reminded me of his Tone on Marching Out, which is my favorite of his early tones. I thought 1 was excellent as well. 3 was good too. Iike 4 the least. sound too flubby in the low end. Great playing as always Chris.

In order top(best) to bottom: 3 - Best, sound most upfront and in the face, good EQ-balance, probably the hardest to play on 4 - More treble and bass, Metal-soundy, as 3 but without the middle, more forgiving. 1 - As 3, alot of middle, but lacking fidelity/crispness/presence and sound a bit far away 2 - As 4, but more far away, bass and treble, lacking some middle

1-fuller, warmer, not so tinty or thin sounding *** 4-similar to 1 but 1 still better ***2- closet to original YM tone, too thin sounding for me*** 3- sound Echo like, in a hall, don't like this one...

They all seem pretty close but I like the extra reverb/delay in 2 and then 4. I wouldn't mind switching between those two depending on what I was playing. Great tones Chris.

3.4,1,2 are the order to me. I hear the number 3 brighter and more punch than the others. That’s my favorite tone of all. I can’t wait to know how you get it. Cheers from Valencia, Venezuela 🇻🇪

They're all sounding great (which is probably what matters most), but I'd go with 4, 3, 1, 2. I like the raw and straight sound from number 4. For some reason, I think 3 has that Marching Out era tone.

It’s 2-4-1-3 for me… 2 & 4 both have the right cut and attack, wheras 1 & 3, to me, sounded too muffled and middy… all nice tones though!

Probably 2 or 4 ... but they all sound reasonable to be honest. I suppose the real test is how each sound/setting _Feels_ under the fingers whilst playing?

(most) 3, 4, 1, 2 (least) If we're talking about what sounds the most 'Yngwie-like' If in terms of just what sounds 'best' even if not accurately Yngiwe - (best) 2, 1, 3, 4 (worst) Though they all sound good, the only one which I think really fails is #2 in that it sounds like much too modern production to pass as a Yngwie tone.

I would have to go with number 2 because it nails the amount of bass in Yngwie's sound, as well as the reverb used in his earlier playing. It's the "meatier" sound of them all imo. Awesome work as always Chris!

Hello Chris, For me the best are 1 and 4, with 4 having a slightly rounder sound, softer to the ear. I think the sound of the Northman is more often closer to 1 than 4 but personally I prefer 4. Then for me comes 3 and finally lastly 2. 4 or 1 > 3 > 2. We will be told that it was recorded in a BcRich with EMG pickups and a Line 6 POD Amp. :) :)

    • @ChrisBrooksGuitar

Maybe at a certain tempo, but not for faster lines where the curve of the pot will have your foot making a much wider motion than your pinky finger. Plus, I'm more likely to use a volume pedal at a different point in the signal chain, normally between the pre and power stages of the amp, which has a different effect because you're swelling the volume of a consistent gain like Petrucci rather than swelling the input gain with the volume knob.
